This bill was introduced by Beto O'Rourke in the house with only Ro Khanna cosponsoring it. This bill has not been introduced at all in the Senate.
This bill is to amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to prohibit a candidate for election to the office or Representative in Congress or Senator from accepting contributions from any political committee other than an authorized committee of the candidate and from establishing a leadership PAC.
While we should push to move to public financing of elections this bill would be a great step foward in helping with our disastrous campaign financing system. This bill would make it illegal for candidates to recieve unlimited contributions from wealthy donors who buy our elections through super pacs. This bill plus more campaign financing reform is the key to our solutions throughout goverment. By getting money (especially from Big Donors) out of politics we reduce the ability for our politicians to be bought and sold on all the major issues progressives care about.
